Validating and correcting chord sequences found on the web
Sometimes libraries of chord sequences on the web contain errors, such as misidentifying the keys or mode or pieces. Harmony Space gives ways of making quick rough visual checks that keys have been identified correctly, and has editors for making corrections and submitting corrections to online sources.
In this example fragment found on the web of Schubert Winterreise, plotted using the “Chords from the web” tool in Harmony Space, the source attributes the key as B major, but this is clearly wrong. A high proportion of the roots are being plotted in the grey area outside the key window, and the orange circles indicate chords that do not fit the proposed key. Visually moving the key window around in Harmony Space, it is clear that Bb minor would be a better fit.
